GopheResearch Tips

  • Look for opportunities and positions that are right for you: Make sure you are clear about your academic interests when applying to improve the likelihood that you will be a good fit for the research project.
  • Review the position type: There are four position types for students to select from including directed research, paid, UROP, and work-study. Not all of the positions are paid positions.
  • Be persistent: Many students are not successful in their first attempts to find a research position. There are many ways to connect to research that can be found across the campus.
  • Check the location: There are five campus options for professors to select from, including East Bank, West Bank, St. Paul, field station, and remote/online. Depending on the time of year when you use the database, consider whether your location needs to change.
